ORGANIC FOOD:
Organic food uses no artificial fertilisers or chemical pesticides
in food production , this is clearly better for the enviroment
and has a lesser impact on climate change than conventional farming
due, in part, to the production processes of chemicals and possible
evaporation of chemicals.
Organic livestock farming is regulated by Government licensed
certifiation bodies such as The Soil Association or Organic Farmers
and Growers - which licenses us. There are stringent rules in
place to ensure that the animals are truly organic.
We have reduced stocking rates to maintain a balanced sustainable
enviroment within the farm, which results in vastly reduced vetinary
inputs, longer grazing seasons , more attention to each animal,
and healthy happy animals. Food miles are low; the abbatoir is only 5 miles from the farm
,a short low stress journey maintains a low 'carbon footprint'
and non stressed animals.
At present, at least 70 per cent of the organic
food consumed in Britain is imported – rising
to 80 per cent for fruit and vegetables (most
organic eggs and meat is domestically produced).
A Bit of Black Mountain Magic!
Food which has
travelled a
shorter distance before
it gets eaten
should be fresher
and have more
nutrients – and
should also
benefit consumers’ immune
systems. Some
researchers
believe that
the dramatic
rise in allergies
and autoimmune
diseases may,
in part, be
a
result
of people no
longer eating
food which
has been produced
in their local
environment.
Stock management
is a higher
priority than
with normal
farming methods. Quality of life is enhanced
through reduced stocking rates.
We use no polystyrene or non bio degradeable
packaging.
All our takeaway food is served in recycleable
/ bio degradeable packaging.
Above
all the taste
is so good
it's hard
to ignore
organic food.
